Houston Astros Notes, Quotes 2008-05-02
--LHP Wandy Rodriguez, originally scheduled to throw a simulated game before Friday's series opener against Milwaukee, will now wait until Saturday or Sunday after experiencing pain Wednesday. He will be examined by the team medical director, Dr. David Lintner.

Rodriguez, on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin, threw a bullpen session Wednesday in Arizona and said he was sore. General manager Ed Wade said pitching coach Dewey Robinson wanted to push Rodriguez's timetable back.

"We'll see how he feels when he shows up at the ballpark (Friday) and play it by ear," Wade said. "No sense in rushing it at this point and have him re-aggravate it and have to run through another two to three weeks of building back up again. We'll be guided by how Wandy feels and try to make sure we make the right decision as far as when to reinstate him."

--RHP Roy Oswalt (2-3, 5.75 ERA) makes his seventh start of the season for the Astros in Friday's series opener against Milwaukee at Minute Maid Park. After starting 0-3, Oswalt has three consecutive quality starts, but he hasn't beaten Milwaukee since 2006.

--RHP Doug Brocail felt a twinge in his hamstring while fielding a ball in Wednesday's loss to Arizona. Brocail, who has a long history of injuries, said it was nothing more than a cramp and didn't expect it to become an issue.

--RHP Dave Borkowski had not allowed a run in seven of 11 games this season before giving up two runs and getting the loss Wednesday in Arizona. Borkowski gave up a two-run homer to Diamondbacks RHP Micah Owings, who pinch-hit in that game.

--RHP Brian Moehler has pitched only one inning since April 18, when he went three innings. Moehler pitched one inning April 27 at St. Louis and was the only Astros reliever who didn't work in the series against Arizona.

BY THE NUMBERS: 6 -- Longest winning streak of the year for the Astros, which was snapped on Saturday. The streak gave the team some extra confidence.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "He's as positive as he can be. Every time. And it's been that way from day one. He's just as positive as he can be, always yelling encouragement and stuff like that. I didn't know he was that kind of player. You heard a little bit, but I didn't know he was that kind." -- Manager Cecil Cooper, on SS Miguel Tejada's impact on the club.
