Houston Astros Notes, Quotes 2008-04-30
--RHP Shawn Chacon failed to give the Astros a quality start for the first time this season on Wednesday. Chacon, who had quality starts in his first five outings, gave up seven hits and five runs and struck out seven batters in five innings, raising his ERA to 3.32. He has no decisions in six starts.

--LHP Wandy Rodriguez, on the disabled list with a strained left groin, said he felt some minor pain in his left leg during his bullpen session Wednesday in Arizona.

"Not as bad as when I threw at home," said Rodriguez, referring to when he suffered the injury April 18.

Rodriguez is still scheduled to throw five innings in a simulated game Friday at Minute Maid Park with hopes he can return to the starting rotation next Wednesday.

--RHP Jack Cassel was optioned to Class AAA Round Rock (Texas) after Wednesday's game, clearing the way for 3B Ty Wigginton to be activated on Friday.

"I knew how I was limited in my time here," said Cassel, who made two starts. "I know Wiggy's down doing his rehab assignment, so essentially it was going to be a numbers game.

"I was pleased with how I threw the ball in the two outings and very happy I was able to get that opportunity. I'm going to go down and have the same plan -- be the first guy they call up."

--3B Ty Wigginton, on the disabled list with a broken bone in his left thumb, played the final game of a scheduled three-game rehabilitation stint with Class AAA Round Rock (Texas) on Wednesday. He will be re-evaluated Friday, but manager Cecil Cooper said Wigginton felt some discomfort Tuesday. Wigginton went a combined 1-for-9 with three strikeouts and two walks in Class AAA.

"We hope to activate him as soon as Friday," assistant general manager Ricky Bennett said.

--SS Miguel Tejada extended his hitting streak to six games by going 2-for-5 Wednesday against Arizona. He's hit safely in 11 of his past 12 games, batting .392 during that span. He leads the team with 11 multi-hit games.

BY THE NUMBERS: 6 -- Longest winning streak of the year for the Astros, which was snapped on Saturday. The streak gave the team some extra confidence.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "He's as positive as he can be. Every time. And it's been that way from day one. He's just as positive as he can be, always yelling encouragement and stuff like that. I didn't know he was that kind of player. You heard a little bit, but I didn't know he was that kind." -- Manager Cecil Cooper, on SS Miguel Tejada's impact on the club.
