Houston Astros Notes, Quotes 2009-05-18
--LHP Wandy Rodriguez won't be kept on a regular four days of rest this week. Because of Friday's rainout at Wrigley Field, the Astros have decided to start Mike Hampton on Tuesday. That affords Hampton and Rodriguez, who will start Wednesday, an extra day of rest. RHP Roy Oswalt will start on his usual four days of rest Thursday.

"I want to keep them in line the best you can," Cecil Cooper said. "It's just unfortunate we had a day off on Friday. It's just the way they line up. ... The one guy that got bumped was (Felipe) Paulino. If you were to bump anybody, he'd be the one."

Cooper altered the rotation a bit when the scheduled game against the Cubs was rained out Friday, pushing Brian Moehler from Friday to Sunday and Paulino to the bullpen.

At this point, Oswalt is the only starter Cooper wants to pitch every fifth day.

--LHP Mike Hampton understands that there will be times when he'll go on extra rest, whether it's five or six days, depending on days off in the schedule and how Roy Oswalt and Wandy Rodriguez stack up.

"When they give me the ball I pitch," he said. "I'm not in a position to worry about it. I don't mind an extra day of rest, especially after Colorado so I can get two bullpens to get the regular feel on my pitches.

"Roy's pitching every fifth day. And, hell, the way Wandy's pitching I'd want him every fifth day, too."

--C Ivan Rodriguez hit the 300th home run of his career with a two-run shot to center Sunday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Of those 300, he hit 293 as a catcher. He's the 28th player to have 300 home runs and at least a .300 career average. He's the 121st player to collect 300 major league home runs.

BY THE NUMBERS: 24 -- Hits Wednesday night in 15-11 victory by the Astros, just one shy of the franchise record and a single-game high among National League teams this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's not something that you sit there and say, 'Well, this is how we should hit every night.' Because you do realize it's a special type deal where everything kind of fell into place for you." -- Lance Berkman after the May 13 game at Chicago in which the Astros became the first NL team since the 1985 Braves to collect at least two hits from each member of the starting lineup.
