Houston Astros Notes, Quotes 2009-04-25
--RHP Chris Sampson left Minute Maid Park before batting practice to attend the ceremony Channelview High School had Friday evening to retire his No. 11 Falcons jersey. Former Astros outfielder Glenn Wilson also had his number retired by the school at the ceremony.

"It's one of the greatest honors I've ever received," he said. "I'm very excited about it."

--CF Michael Bourn, who had hit eighth or led off this season, was put in the second spot for the first time this season.

"The idea was to finally get Bourn to the top," Cooper said. "Maybe it's just that time. I don't know. I'm just grasping to try to get some consistency with our lineup and the production."

--C Humberto Quintero maintained control of the ball for the inning-ending out after Mike Cameron lunged at him at a collision at the plate in the fourth inning. Both men remained on the ground for nearly a minute, prompting the managers and trainers for each team to rush out of the dugouts to check on their players.

Quintero, who was ultimately replaced by Ivan Rodriguez in the top of the fifth, was adamant that Cameron's blow was clean. Cooper also backed that assessment.

"I think it's the right play he had to do because I tried to block the home plate," said Quintero, who expects to be available Saturday despite having a slight headache and swelling in his strained right shoulder Friday night.

--RHP Chris Sampson is pitching with a partial tear of his hip's labrum, but there isn't much concern. "He can't hurt it any worse," manager Cecil Cooper said. "This is something he's going to have pretty much all year."

--Before RHP Roy Oswalt was taken deep three times in the sixth inning Wednesday, an Astros pitcher hadn't allowed three home runs in an inning since Jason Hirsh allowed three Aug. 12, 2006, in the fourth inning against the Padres. The Dodgers had not hit three home runs in an inning since they had three in the seventh on May 15, 2008, against the Brewers.

BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- LHP Wandy Rodriguez tied his career high with an Astros' season-high 10 strikeouts April 18 against the Cincinnati Reds.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We need to focus on winning and I think everyone needs to know who the manager is today and who the manager is going forward. And we wanted to focus on getting better and winning. ... Ed (Wade), Tal (Smith) and myself, we believe in this team. As they put it together in the offseason and we went to spring training, we felt very confident in our ability to compete, win our division and move forward in the playoffs. We've had a few ups and downs, but that's life. And we wanted to focus on baseball games." -- Astros owner Drayton McLane, after picking up Cecil Cooper's extension.
