--Before RHP Roy Oswalt was taken deep three times in the sixth inning Wednesday, an Astros pitcher hadn't allowed three home runs in an inning since Jason Hirsh allowed three Aug. 12, 2006, in the fourth inning against the Padres. The Dodgers had not hit three home runs in an inning since they had three in the seventh on May 15, 2008, against the Brewers.

--C Humberto Quintero, the backup catcher, was out early Wednesday working on his throws to second base. With third base coach Dave Clark fielding at second, bullpen coach Mark Bailey, who works with the catchers, tossed to Quintero from 30 feet in front of the mound. Quintero also worked on blocking pitches in the dirt.

--Astros owner Drayton McLane hopes his decision to pick up manager Cecil Cooper's extension for 2010 on April 18 made it clear to his players who is in charge. "We need to focus on winning, and I think everyone needs to know who the manager is today and who the manager is going forward," McLane said. "And we wanted to focus on getting better and winning. ... Ed (Wade), Tal (Smith) and myself, we believe in this team. As they put it together in the offseason and we went to spring training, we felt very confident in our ability to compete, win our division and move forward in the playoffs. We've had a few ups and downs, but that's life. And we wanted to focus on baseball games."

BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- LHP Wandy Rodriguez tied his career high with an Astros' season-high 10 strikeouts April 18 against the Cincinnati Reds.
