Astros hitting coach Sean Berry had his cancerous right kidney removed by Dr. Richard Goldfarb on Friday morning at The Methodist Hospital.

"Berry's cancerous right kidney was removed via laparoscope, leaving a two-inch abdominal incision," the Astros announced. "Doctors indicated that there will not be a need for follow-up cancer treatments.

Berry, 43, will remain hospitalized for three to four days and could return to his full coaching duties in approximately two weeks.

"The prognosis is pretty good for Sean," Cecil Cooper said.

ASTROS 2, PADRES 0: LHP Wandy Rodriguez threw eight scoreless innings, and LaTroy Hawkins pitched the ninth for the shutout on a night Hunter Pence hit a game-winning two-run single through the right side and CF Michael Bourn made a game-saving catch in center with men on second and third in the first inning.
