INSIDE PITCH

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Yovani Gallardo was dominant, and beyond a two-run home run by Carlos Lee, cruised for nine innings, allowing two runs and striking out five without walking a batter. The complete game was the Brewers' first of the season and the first of Gallardo's career.

TURNING POINT

The Brewers got to Houston starter Felipe Paulino in the fifth inning with six singles that scored four runs. Four of those singles scored four consecutive runs and proved the deciding factor in the Brewers' third victory in a row.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

* The solid Brewers defense continued against the Astros as second baseman Rickie Weeks made three nice plays in the first two innings. The first robbed Lance Berkman of a run-scoring single on a sliding play in the hole. He also took a hit from Miguel Tejada with a backhand play up the middle. Weeks made another play on Geoff Blum in the fifth after a line drive popped out of his glove. He was able to gather it and throw Blum out at first.

CLUBHOUSE CONFIDENTIAL

Minute Maid Park has been somewhat a house of horrors for the Brewers since the Astros moved to their downtown stadium in 2000. Entering play Friday, Milwaukee was just 23-46 at the park. But in 2007, the Brewers snapped a nine-year-series losing streak to the Astros by going 13-5 against Houston, and repeated the feat by going 8-7 in 2008.

STATITUDE

* The Brewers have homered in 12 of their last 16 games, including 11 of the last 13. They did not hit a home run Friday.
