HOUSTON (AP) - First baseman Lance Berkman was a late scratch from the Houston Astros lineup for their game against the San Diego Padres on Friday night because of soreness in his left wrist.
Astros manager Cecil Cooper had originally dropped Berkman from his usual No. 3 spot in the lineup to fifth. He was replaced by Darin Erstad.Berkman has struggled this season, hitting .184 with a team-leading seven home runs and 16 RBIs.
Cooper said he was moving Berkman down in the order because he was "just trying to find some kind of combination that works."
Club officials say Berkman is day to day.
