PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Houston Astros placed pitcher Brian Moehler on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee Wednesday, two days after the right-hander had to leave his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Alberto Arias was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock. The right-hander, who pitched 10 1-3 scoreless innings for Houston in seven spring training appearances, is expected to join the Astros for Thursday's game against the Pirates.Moehler left his start against the Pirates on Monday after 2 1-3 innings because of discomfort in his knee. A MRI taken on Moehler's knee Tuesday showed sprained medial collateral ligament.
Moehler, who is 0-2 with a 27.00 ERA in two starts this season, is eligible to come off the disabled list on April 29. He was scheduled to start Sunday against Cincinnati. Houston has not picked a replacement.
